This little gem was tricky. While mixing the colours everything looked great. Now when I put paint to canvas it wasn’t so great…. I’ve put up with poor lighting in my studio for longer then I would like to admit. So I did some research and came across a youtube video by Lena Danya talking about her studio lighting, soft boxes were highly recommended. When I saw the prices I was like cmon there’s got to be a more practical way to get some lighting in here. While searching for a cell phone holder so I could create this time lapse I found a cell phone holder with a 5000k selfie ring attached to it. Perfect best of both worlds I get the lighting and I get the extra hand to hold my phone. Of course it wasn’t enough lighting but walking through the dollar store I found some 5000k lightbulbs. boom pop em in day and night! (literally) As soon as I grabbed my pallet from the fridge it was a horror scene the colours were so off! Lucky I got to mixing and salvaged the damage I had done. Voila lesson learned art made all in a good days work.
Gone Fishing...
Well its the first day of summer and with that comes full on cottage season this little gem was a commission from out of the blue but I thoroughly enjoyed the nostalgic of this in my studio. Growing up we would spend a month at our families cottage fishing exploring and singing by the fire pit on starry nights. So when I was approached to do this sign with an open invitation to do what ever my heart desired I knew just the fish that could pull off the cottage vibe (Of course the large mouth bass). One of the most exciting fish to catch they put on the whole show jumping and all, not to mention the size they get up to. All of our eyes wide as our father would pull them out of the lake thinking he was the greatest fishermen to ever grace the lake. while me and my brother would be left dangling our kiddie rods hoping to catch a sunfish or two. Anyways I hope this piece will bring that wonderful feeling to my clients cottage and some good fortune out there on the lake.
Gold Everywhere
Who doesn’t love the glow of gold?
Theres something about the brass and yellow tones of gold that warms the soul. I was told the other day that there is speculations humans are attracted to shinny things because its reflective like water which is essential to life of course. Yup just googled it “Our crush on glossiness might be rooted in a primitive desire for water.” This why I had such a time doing this piece its all in our biology. My studio was covereddddd in leaf I completely relish in mess! my partner and doggo not so much I had to pic some leaf out of Coles wet nose here and there. Now every thing’s not always sunshine and rainbows with gold leafing sometimes it reacts unexpectedly to finishing. It can crackle and turn green once varnished its important to test a small spot of gold with all materials being used or you could be left with a chemical reaction you weren’t exactly going for.
